Mission

Peer Plus Education and Training Advocates is a 501(c)3 that identifies underserved populations in the Midwest area and provides culturally sensitive programs that address the multifaceted issues of people in need of essential health, educational, and psychosocial services. Peer Plus also provides non-medical education, training and related workshops.

Wellness Team

Our volunteers have substantial experience in a variety of areas. They include significant background and knowledge of chronic and preventable illnesses—such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and HIV disease—as well as expertise in supervision, financial education, fundraising, marketing, and event planning in a variety of settings.  In addition to teaching classes and workshops, Peer Plus makes available educational and learning tools among poorer and uninsured or underinsured populations, enhancing ways for them to achieve and maintain good health and wellness.

Capabilities

As a community-based organization, Peer Plus has an extensive network of health centers, free clinics, local hospitals and social service agencies that support us in our efforts and overall mission. This, in turn, facilitates our competence in meeting the needs and challenges of populations who are disproportionately impacted by social and environmental factors of health. Peer Plus utilizes a direct approach in accessing potential clients.  For example, we seek out community health centers and other organizations located primarily in underserved communities that may provide health screenings, but no on-site education.  We provide updated materials and brochures, as well as referrals for related health services.

Peer Plus is extremely fortunate to also have clergy, medical professionals, state-certified counselors and specialized educators—all of whom provide free advisory and consulting services upon request.
